29 Faces Day 23

“Today’s Junk Shop Find”

Some days you plain get lucky. This morning, a trip to the Junk Shop in town yielded a blue Ball Jar full of buttons and a ceramic doll head screaming for a freshly painted face. Dang, as luck would have it, I LOVE buttons and I needed to paint a face today. $5.00 peeps! Tell me that’s not kismet. Maybe after 29faces, I’ll find time to make her a body, and a dress with buttons all over it… 🙂

The Ceramic Head is painted with Acrylics and sealed with a Gloss Varnish.

29 Faces Day 22

“Fine Tuned”

Tada! This is the painting that had me out of the loop for a couple of days. I am always happy when an idea comes to life. I love the process. First the spark. Mapping it out in my head. Perhaps a quick sketch on paper to set the dimensions of the main elements. Finally to paint, layer after layer, until it starts coming to life. Adding, editing, frustration, aha moments, knowing when to say when. The process is my joy. The finished painting is a bonus…

29 Faces Day 21

“Buttoned Up”

As you can see, this is not a painting! I have been working like crazy on a 5″x7″ painting for Nibblefest, and because of that, 29faces has taken a small temporary hit. Day 21 is a simple quickie graphite pencil sketch on cardstock. 🙂

29 Faces Day 20

Pomodori

Italian for tomatoes, “Pomodori” is not only my 20th face, but also my entry in this month’s Nibblefest Art Contest on eBay. The theme for February is ‘Black and White’. This Acrylic Painting was done with just three colors, Titanium White, Mars Black, and for the tomatoes, Permanent Red. It is the ACEO (Art Card Editions and Originals) standard size of 2.5″x3.5″!

FYI, search NFAC on eBay to see all the Nibblefest Art and Auctions starting at just $0.99!

Oh no… Sea Monsters!

The Giant Squid 4.22.2014

The Giant Squid
4.22.2014

Nibblefest you are a cruel beast, which fits nicely with this month’s Sea Monster theme! As much as I dreaded this one, there should be a law against having so much FUN. I ended up doing two ACEO Original Acrylic Paintings for this round…

When I think Sea Monster, my first thought always goes to “The Giant Squid”. It is such an iconic image, the old wooden sailing ship being wrapped in the clutches of the multi armed creature from the deep. The wind howls. The waves crash. The rocks draw near. You know this one is going to end badly. That dang ship doesn’t stand a chance…

The Creature from Coconut Cove 4.22.2014

The Creature from Coconut Cove

That painting finished, another idea emerges.  I find myself chuckling at the thought of doing a take on the old Hollywood horror classic, “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”. “The Creature from Coconut Cove” unfolds with a decidedly Gulat twist. The creature in this case is the one with the glass of wine in her hand, and the monster is the green guy behind her having second thoughts!

Doors

"Doors" 3.20.2014

“Doors”

“I once dreamed of doors…”

Nibblefest is a themed monthly art contest on eBay. I was feeling kind of blah about this month’s theme ‘doors’, until the wheels started turning inside my head. Bit by bit an idea began taking shape, and then the painting. At first all I had was the nude (a recent pencil sketch of a pose I adore), the stone wall, an orange door, and the full moon. The row of fairly symmetrical trees were added to frame the orange door and keep your eye drawn to it. The AHA moment came when I thought to myself, “wouldn’t she look cool laying on an old door?” Well yeah. Duh. Who doesn’t look cool laying on an old door? Old green door? Blue door? Purple door? All of the above! Ooh… How about a black panther on the wall? Nah… How about a cheetah?.. Big cheetah in the foreground?.. Two big cheetahs! Yes. More symmetry. Tweak it for a day or so, and Viola! Done! My painting titled “Doors”…
